West Bengal student Soumyadeep Mahato's surprise turned into shock when he discovered that his photograph was allegedly replaced with a dog's picture on his admit card on Thursday.

Mahato was to appear for a Common Entrance Test under West Bengal State Council for Vocational Training which is scheduled to be held on June 28, 2015.

The student belongs to a poor family and works as a mechanic in a local garage to make ends meet.

Gangrape girl marry her lover at Guntur

A 20-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by two youths in Vemuru village near Tenali town in Guntur district, police said on Saturday.

"The victim and her 22-year-old boyfriend, who belong to a nearby Kollur village, had come to Vemuru railway station last night to catch a train. They had run away from home and planned to tie a knot as their parents were opposed to their marriage," Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Tenali, K Sowjanya said.

When they reached the railway station, four youths aged between 20 and 25 years posed as policemen and searched their belongings. Later, they took away the girl to a desolate place, where two of the youths sexually assaulted her and two others aided them, she said.

"Meanwhile, her boyfriend went to Vemuru police station and informed them about the threat to his girlfriend. The police immediately came to the spot and arrested the four youths," the DSP added.

109 sent to jail for urinating in public

In an unprecedented cleanliness drive, and perhaps, for the first time in India, Government Railway Police of Agra division has sent 109 persons to jail for 24 hours after they were found urinating on the railway property, including platform, tracks parking lot. They were later released after paying a fine ranging from Rs 100 to Rs 500 depending on the gravity of the act of creating a public nuisance.

Disgusted with the stink of urine and ugly red pan stains due to spitting in every nook and corner at stations and other railway properties, senior superintendent of police, GRP, Gopeshnath Khanna ordered his men to conduct a drive against such miscreants and penalize them for public nuisance.

The drive was conducted over a 48-hour period across 12 stations of GRP, Agra division. As many as 109 people were nabbed. Of these 27 were caught in the act on Friday.

Mother Encourage her Daughter to Prostitution

The CB-CID police on Tuesday arrested a Tamil actress in Vadapalani for forcing her 14-year-old daughter, an actress herself, into the sex trade. The police team also arrested a woman pimp and a film director from the hotel where the girl was rescued. 

Following a tip from volunteers of an NGO, a police team sent a decoy to the hotel near Vadapalani, where the girl was detained. Apart from the girl's mother, S Rajeshwari, 35, of Nungambakkam, and R Senthamilarasu, a 38-year-old film director and resident of Porur, were arrested. 

According to plan, the decoy met Rajeshwari who showed him picture of the girl and demanded 1.5 lakh for her services. The decoy paid 10,000 as advance and promised to pay the remaining later. On entering the room and confirming that it was indeed a juvenile girl forced into prostitution, the policeman in disguise alerted a waiting police team. 

The team members rushed into the room and nabbed the three accused and rescued the girl. While the girl was sent to a government home in Mylapore, the arrested were remanded in judicial custody.

Although the packaging of the medicine does not clearly mention that it is beneficial for bearing a male child, but the name is misleading. Even some sites which sell these products are making such claims.

“According to Ayurveda this herb helps in achieving a baby boy but this is a matter of research. But people in India say that it is very effective in getting a baby boy,” claims one such website.

Goat gives Birth to Human like Babies

 It is one of those freak surprises thrown by nature. A goat at the Solapur hamlet in H.D. Kote taluk in Karnataka has given birth to two stillborn kids   on Monday with a striking resemblance to a human face.

The goat gave birth to first human-like still-born kid at around 6.30 am. Five hours later it delivered another kid, this time a female with human features.

The incident became talk of the town instantly.

Nearly 70 per cent of the features are human-like. The eyes, nose and mouth resemble a human baby. Even the limbs are like that of a human. Only ears and foot were those of a goat.

The owner of the goat, Bhaskar said he has been rearing the goat for four years and she has delivered around 10 babies till now, all of them normal.

His house is drawing crowds by the hundreds. Some felt it is an isolated case, while some others feared that the birth of such goats would bring a bad omen, and asked Bhaskar to dispose off the still-borns.

Deputy director of animal husbandry Dr Devadas said, “In medical terms, the condition in is called fetal anasarta, means the baby body filled with excessive fluids. This happens due to a genetic disorder or infection.” The two still-born baby goats will be preserved and exhibited at the Mysore Dasara Exhibition, he added.

Germany Rising greenhouse gases have boosted rainfall in the Sahel region of Africa, easing droughts that killed 100,000 people in the 1970s and 1980s, in a rare positive effect of climate change, a study said on Monday.

The report adds to debate about the causes of a greening of the Sahel region, south of the Sahara Desert from Senegal to Sudan. It said a continued rise in greenhouse gas emissions was likely to help more rainfall in the region in future.

"Amounts of rainfall have recovered substantially," said Rowan Sutton, a professor at the National Centre for Atmospheric Science at Britain's Reading University and co-author of the study in the journal Nature Climate Change.

Sutton cautioned that the change in rainfall was only local and that many parts of Africa face mounting problems from warming, ranging from desertification and floods to rising sea levels.

"It would be naïve to conclude that this is a good thing for Africa," he said. "And in future, there are other effects – the rise in temperatures can be detrimental to crops."

Still, the scientists wrote that models indicated that a projected continued rise in greenhouse gas emissions "is favourable for sustaining, and potentially amplifying, the recovery of Sahel rainfall."
