No Lighting Effect in marriage - Cancel Wedding

A wedding was called off in Etawah when a groom's side demanded better lighting arrangements at the 'jaimal' ceremony venue, the bride's family refused to do so. The trivial matter, however, snowballed into a major argument and later took a violent turn and police were called. Finally, the girl refused to marry and wedding was called off.

The incident took place in Kheda Ajab Singh village under the limits of Badhpura police station of Etawah district on late Wednesday night.

The wedding of Vijay Singh of Morena (Madhya Pradesh) and Chanda (name changed) daughter of one Natthu Singh Bhadauria was supposed to be held on Wednesday at a nearby marriage lawn, where the bride's family had erected a stage for 'jaimal' cermony.

According to police, trouble began as the wedding party arrived at the bride's reception venue, the to-be-groom and his siblings demanded better lighting arrangements for the 'jaimal' ceremony.

When the bride's family did not pay any heed and refused to accept their demand, a verbal dual ensued between groom Vijay and his would be father-in-law Natthu Singh.

Speaking to TOI, one Ajay, a relative of the girl said that they had just protested against the undue demand of the bridegroom and his family members, but they started misbehaving with them. He added: "When girl's father and brother went to sort it out, they were threatened."

"We will never get our sister married with a person who creates a hue and cry merely over lighting arrangements. They were uncultured and ill-mannered," Ajay told TOI.

Finally, the girl refused to get married and bridegroom had to return without solemnising the wedding.

The miffed family of the bride also took back all the gifts that had been given to the groom during 'tilak' ceremony, the police said.

Speaking to TOI, the Badhpura police, which was aware of the incident, said that they had never seen or heard the cancellation of the wedding just over lighting arrangements.

SHO, Badhpura, Kamlesh Yadav said a 'panchayat' was convened in which the money and gifts exchanged by the two sides were returned but no case was registered.
